I chose Social Studies because all categories of this vast discipline greatly impact society, whether through history, geography, government, economics, anthropology, psychology, or sociology. I am originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, and am a 2017 graduate of Fairview High School.
Presented below are my contributions to PIAA-sanctioned athletic programs during the 2021-2022 school year:
Fall season of 2021, I served as the Offensive Line and Defensive Line coach for the Seneca High School Varsity Football program. This season, we broke a 29-game losing streak and allowed over 150 points less than the previous season. Offensively, improved rushing yards by more than 25 yards per game. Defensively, reduced rushing yards against by more than 135 yards per game.
Winter season of 2022, I served as the head coach for the 7th and 8th grade Boys Basketball teams at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. I taught basketball basics to student-athletes who are preparing to play athletics in high school.
Presented below are just a few of my activities outside the classroom during my time as a student at Grove City College:
Summers of 2017 and 2018, I worked at Lake Shore Country Club, where I gained valuable experience working with people from all backgrounds.
Summer of 2019, I was given the opportunity to both teach and minister to 7th and 8th grade inner-city students through the Urban Impact Foundation in Pittsburgh. The students I taught were of low socioeconomic status, and many students do not live in two-parent homes.
Summer of 2020, I traveled to Medora, North Dakota, where I served the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation and aiding in its mission of preserving the spirit of the old American West and the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt.
Summer of 2021, I served as a summer remediation teacher for High School Social Studies at Seneca High School. During this experience, I scaffolded instruction to meet individual students' needs in a credit recovery program.
I served as a member of the Grove City College football team, where I am contributed as a student assistant coach. I played on the team until back injuries required me to discontinue my playing career. As a student coach, I was trusted in a leadership position to develop players on numerous offensive positions. I was also trusted as a play caller to signal the correct plays to the offense during live game situations. Additionally, I contributed to game-day recruiting, where I introduced prospective athletes to Grove City College through campus tours, giving input on the advantages of the prestigious college and why I chose it, and answer any questions from both athletes and parents.
Having mentored under great leaders in various fields, I am interested in leadership training. I am fascinated with past leaders and how to both learn and grow from them and their strategies. Students can develop leadership qualities, even at the middle or high school level. The classroom is a great opportunity for students to learn and practice skills that transcend the classroom, including respect, character, perseverance, critical thinking, responsibility, work ethic, and resilience, among other skills. I am passionate about creating a positive classroom environment, so all students of all backgrounds feel valued and are an important part of the classroom. I enjoy collaborative learning because students learning from their peers can be such an impactful way of learning!
