In component 1D, teachers use a plethora of resources to enhance student learning. Some resources are officially mandated by the school, while others are found by teachers out of their own initiative. These resources fall into specific categories, including resources used in the classroom by students, resources available outside the classroom to further student learning, resources used by teachers to improve their own knowledge, and resources available to provide non instructional assistance to students. Great teachers know to be careful in selecting resources for the classroom because these materials should align with the learning outcomes. These resources must also be appropriately challenging in a way that furthers their learning, but it makes them work and expand their schema for this knowledge. For example, all course readings should be difficult but understandable for the students. Great teachers find resources beyond the classroom to help their students.
