In component 3B, questioning and discussion is of vital importance to teaching. They deepen student understanding, rather than being used as a quiz. Good teachers include both convergent and divergent questions. All student responses to questions are valued. High-quality questions build deeper understanding for students. Effective teachers make class discussions animated and engage all students. Throughout the class, teachers should transition from low to high cognitive questions. Effective teachers promote class discussion and allow for collaborative learning, and there should be high levels of student discussion.
