Organizing the physical environment of the classroom is critical in enhancing student learning. The classroom also must be a safe environment for students. Therefore, there must be no hazards that would inhibit students from participating in the class. The physical classroom also relates to technology. Computers and electronic devices should be organized and displayed in a way that promotes learning. This component has two main aspects: safety and accessibility, and arrangement of furniture and use of physical resources. If students are unsafe or there are any fears for safety, then learning will not occur. Also, resources must be accessible for all students, so they have an equal opportunity to use those resources for their learning. When all class resources are accessible, students can productively engage with the content. Students can even take an active role in advocating for a certain room arrangement. If students want to work in groups, they can move furniture in a way that enhances collaboration. For students with disabilities or other needs, teachers can modify the arrangement of the room to meet their needs.
