In component 3D, assessment is in integral part of lessons. Effective teachers use assessment throughout their lessons. Teachers must gauge the pulse of the lesson, monitor student learning, and give meaningful feedback to students. When monitoring student behavior, teachers must be aware of students passing notes and distracting others. When monitoring student learning, teachers look and listen to student learning and gauge if extra explanation is needed before moving on in the lesson because there could be misconceptions flowing through the class. Teachers should pose questions that determine if students are understanding the material. Effective teachers encourage students to monitor their own learning. In doing so, students must be taught to complete their work against the standards.
