In component 1E, designing instruction for the class reflects the teacher's knowledge, the intended learning outcomes from this instruction, and all available resources. Teachers must understand the student learning expectations at the school, district, and state levels. These expectations then should be incorporated into the lesson. Instruction should be able to engage students and improve their learning through the lesson's content. All material and resources used in the lesson should be appropriate and help further students' learning. Great teachers know how students work with each other and how the class should be divided when working in groups. Teachers should also know exactly the current learning level of each student and how to adapt the lesson to meet their needs and improve their learning.
